Cost of Garwood’s Proposed Athletic Complex Continues to Climb

Stacking up
The price tag for the town’s long-awaited recreational centerpiece is now topping $3.2 million dollars. The borough council heard from its auditor Tuesday during a workshop session, according to a report in the venerable Westfield Leader. Officials say the hike is due to an increase in materials costs, the report says. The Mayor of Garwood has insisted that the new complex will “add value to the community.”

  1. Did anyone ever hear of a government project that came in under budget? I never did.

  3. Add value?? How can this be proven? Has the new school added value to anyone's home? I think not.
    Dump this project.

  4. to anon july 13 9:16--yes the school project came in under budget by $1 mill. As to the anon july 19- somewhat agree that the school which everyone clamored about adding value did nothing after 10 years, but we are in a down cycle. The up cycle for the previous yrs 2003 through 2008 peak had RE values increase by around 30-40%, but unsure how much was directly attributable to the new school....since 2008 RE last aorund 25% so we are around break even from 2003.
