Southside Danger Zone?

Is the corner of Beech Avenue and West Street dangerous? If so, what would make it safer?

Fact or Fiction?

  2. This intersection is one of the many pass through intersections from Westfield to Cranford or the other way around or to Kings or Shoprite or the Gymnastic place. The people who travel these roads are out of towners who disobey the law constantly always rolling through stops signs or traveling at 35mph in a 25mph zone because they are in a hurry.
Sit at the end of Center St. and Hickory and look north towards the center of town and I would put money you would count 10 to 15 cars in an hour never stopping for the stop signs especialy at Pine and Center( East and Pine is another problem area). Maybe instead of blinking signs and additional signage maybe just enforcing the law and letting drivers know you run a stop sign in Garwood you will get a ticket. Maybe Chief Legg should think about that instead of other ways to solve this problem.
I see the DPW has already installed new signs at Beech and West which I think Garwood has met their obligation to solve the problem. Now its time for the police to enforce the traffic laws all over town not just the few select hot spots. This would make Garwood a safer place to drive and all the problem intersection safer..
