Garwood's AFC Project will Raise Taxes for Borough Residents

With a price tag of $3,257,000 the borough's Athletic Field Compelx, referred to more and more colloquially as the A-F-C, there is no doubt that taxes in town will be raised to pay for it. According to the venerable Westfield Leader the AFC will lead to a $65 bump in tax bills for homes assessd at $100,000. The tax is in addition to yearly taxes, which were already raised by $105 (for homes assessed at $100,000), the report says.

The cost of upkeeping the AFC has been estimated to be between $4000 and $5000 dolllars a year, according to the Leader.

Supporters say the site will add value to the town, others says (citing the numbers above) it's simply too expensive for borough taxpayers.
