Shopping Local in Garwood on Small Business Saturday

It's the brainchild of American Express- a day to promote shopping local while also promoting their credit card. But, while neighboring Westfield and Cranford have jumped head first into Small Business Saturday, for Garwood shoppers its a much tougher, and spread out, sell. The recent closures of Downtown staples like Sew and Show and Added Attractions has not made it any easier.

Try it though.

Pick up something special at Koi for your daughter or wife, maybe a vintage record at Turnabout in Downtown for your crazy uncle, a gift card for a dinner at Rosie's, a chew-toy for fido at Cherry Brook, or a pair of slippers for Grandma at Marty's on South Avenue.

American Express has run an aggressive ad campaign promoting the day, but, cynicism aside, they hit the nail on the head: 'its a day to come together in support of the small businesses we love. The shops and restaurants that employ our neighbors and reinvest our money close to home. The businesses that are the heartbeat of our communities and local economies.'

Well said. Shop Local!

TRY REAL HARD TO SHOP LOCAL
