Cranford Officials are 'expanding' their Downtown west, right up to the Garwood Border, and the future Northside Redevelopment District.

CRANFORD -- Despite some opposition, Cranford’s downtown special improvement district is gaining ground.
The township committee voted 3-2 Wednesday night to expand the district westward from South Avenue and Walnut Street all the way to the Garwood border. An ordinance formalizing the decision will be up for a vote in May.

The move will add about 15 commercial property owners to the more than 150 currently paying an extra tax assessment to fund the nonprofit District Management Corp., which has been struggling to maintain its promotional programs with an annual budget of $137,000.
