Police: Elderly Garwood Man Targeted by Bloods

A Garwood senior fearing for his life gave a suspected Bloods gang member upwards of $50,000 to secure his safety, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Garwood Police.

Authorities arrested a 33 year old Sayerville man on Monday, and charged him with 2nd Degree extortion and drug offenses after the victim reported the alleged crimes to the Police.

Edward Schram, a suspected member of the Bloods street gang, repeatedly threatened the victim with bodily harm from fellow gang members unless the victim made regular payments for protection, said the Union County Prosecutor.

It's unclear how Schram knew his victim.
