Borough sees more Burglaries in 2008

The number of burglaries committed in the borough was up in 2008. In fact, the number of burglaries doubled in Garwood since 2007-- that's according to new FBI statistics recently released.

FBI stats show there were 6 burglaries in town throughout 2008, up from 3 in 2007.

That trend was seen statewide as the number of burglaries were up in New Jersey last year.

While burglaries were up in the borough, they are down from 2006 when thieves pulled off 11 of them in town-- and way down from 16 in 2002.

As for other noteworthy crime stats from 2008, the borough saw no Murders, Rapes, Robberies or Assaults. Garwood also saw no car thefts or arson incidents.

Overall the highest number of crimes in Union County were in Elizabeth, Plainfield, Union and Linden. The lowest number of crimes occurred in Winfield, Garwood and Mountainside.
