Post Office is Staying Put

Some Garwood residents have expressed concern that the borough post office was on the chopping block and that a closure was even eminent.

But, after a quick interview with Garwood 365 the US Postal Office has assured us the branch is not part of the USPS Station and Branch Optimization studies for possible consolidation—and therefore will remain open.

Spokesperson George B. Flood said “reassure your readers that we are committed to providing service to our customers in Garwood.”

The spokesperson explained that because the Garwood Post Office is the only postal facility in the municipality it did not fall under any of the new consolidation plans. He went on to say the very survival of the Postal Service depends upon continued access for all customers, like Garwood’s Post Office, despite weak economic conditions and a drop in mail volume.

And just a reminder, Garwood residents can share their comments, feedback, and service concerns with the Post Office by calling the local Postmaster at 908-789-0315, talking to a customer service representative at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777), or by logging onto USPS.com.
