Garwood Outpaces State for Tax Increases, Bucks Last Year's Trend

New Jersey homeowner taxes went up 1.7 percent last year, the smallest bump in more than two decades, according to an analysis of records by the Star Ledger. But, in Garwood taxes have increased 4.3 percent bringing the average tax bill to $8,749.30. Mountainside saw the biggest tax increase in the County with a 5.6% hike from last year.
Garwood ranks 171 highest out of 566 municipalities, or in the top 30 percent, according to a report in the Clark-Garwood Patch. Garwood pays a higher municipal bill than the county average, but a lower school bill, the report says.
