Garwood Condo Board Promising Mayoral Address at Aug. Event

A Garwood condo board is evoking a lofty platform at an upcoming event in which it has invited the borough's Mayor to speak. Instead of calling the clubhouse event a community forum or a town hall, the condo board is promising a full-on “State of the Borough” address on the 22nd.

According to a report on nj.com the President of the Pointe Condo's board said:

“Each year, the president of the United States delivers a State of the Union address, and the governor delivers a State of the State address. We thought Garwood residents would benefit from a similar talk about municipal affairs, and we hope our neighbors will join us.”

The event will begin at 7:30 pm on August 22nd, according to the report.

  1. now this is confusing. GW365 notes the Pointes "lofty" (very punny 365!) platform of having the mayor speak at the pointe community forum, but this is definitely not a "state of the boro" address. Maybe it could be called an "interim state of the boro address" and sounds like a reasonable idea to update the progress of the boros govt sponsored programs and actions. Always plenty to talk about since the boro spends around $8 mill/year in our taxes and grants.

FWIW-The real state of the boro address is already given by the mayor to the residents during the first council meeting of each year where the latest elected council members also get sworn in and mayoral appointments are memorialized. Its all on record too. Example is on page 9 of the following link: http://www.garwood.org/docs/minutes/2013/01-02-13.doc

I am all for more info getting out to the people especially from the mayor to the public but this is certainly not a state of the boro address. Anyway, if the public wants to know any more items they could always come to the council meetings and observe or ask, or even come to a monthly "mayors Saturday" and speak privately with the mayor....along with OPRA requests, the boro website, the boro bulletin board or just simply phoning any council member, chief, professional, administrator or the mayor, they are all reachable and openly share their ideas and thoughts.
