Local Dish: Quality Butchers Serve Garwood on North Ave and Nearby

The names read like an all-star list, that is, if the all-star team you were fielding was a totally awesome meat-centric powerhouse: Perrotti's Quality Meats, Benvenuti Specialties, Al's Prime Meats, and the Butcher Block.

These shops are the real deal when it comes to quality beef, veal, pork, chicken and deli items. And unlike the local super market chains the meat does not come on a sickly looking pieces of white Styrofoam. Local meat markets are typically locally owned (and those in the Garwood area are) and when its comes to these four the product is far superior than what's available from the chains. A little farther away, and definitely worth the drive for special occasions, John's Meat Market in Scotch Plains is a nearby favorite as well.
