New census figures were released on Tuesday and the numbers show Asians made huge gains in population in the borough. In the last census estimate Asians accounted for just a little more than 1% of the town's residents. But, the latest figures show Garwood is now 7% Asian. A substantial increase.
Whites are still the majority in town, accounting for 88% of the borough's population, but, that number is down from a nearly homogeneous 96%.
Hispanics account for 3% of the residents, Blacks- less than 1%, according to the latest figures. The New York Times has a great interactive map with the new census information.
